I understand that strings is an elective class, and is a commitment above the academic requirements of Holy Cross Academy. I understand that registering for strings means my child will be missing class time each week on a rotating schedule. If my child's grades decline, I understand that participation in strings may be suspended until academic standards meet expectations.

Decent Behavior *

I understand that playing a string instrument is a huge responsibility for both students and parents. My child will be consistently respectful of instruments, classmates, teachers, and the school. I understand lack of participation or indecent behavior will not be tolerated and may result in my child being sent back to class.

Instrument Fitting *

Finding the correct instrument size and fit is essential to success in string playing. I understand that I SHOULD NOT PURCHASE OR RENT AN INSTRUMENT until my child has been correctly sized by Mr. Drew at Holy Cross Academy. Incorrect sizing is a major factor in student frustration, poor sound production, and playing injuries. I understand the importance of this and will ensure my student is sized and fitted correctly. If my child grows during the year, I understand I may need to exchange rental instruments or equipment to maintain correct instrument fitment.

Home Practice *

I understand that learning a string instrument requires consistent practice and home listening, and that participation in strings class means my child is expected to practice according to the weekly assignments and listen to the recordings of the working pieces. I understand that home practice, especially with parent support, is the single greatest factor in becoming a capable musician.

Commitment *

I understand that strings classes at HCA are a year-long commitment and that this commitment includes class attendance, home practice, tuition payment, and concert attendance. Classical stringed instruments are the most difficult of all, and I understand that persistence through difficulty is a core requirement of a string player. I understand this commitment not only is for my own child's musical development but also supports the success of their group class and the HCA strings program as a whole.
